Thousand Waves Spa offers Shiatsu on a limited basis.
Your massage begins with a visit to the spa baths – dry sauna, eucalyptus steamroom, and hot tub. Check-in is permitted one hour before the scheduled time of your treatment. After your treatment you are welcome to use the showers and then rest or read in the relaxation room but may not return to the spa baths.
Shiatsu is carried out fully clothed, with the receiver lying or sitting on a soft, padded mat on the floor. We recommend that you bring loose, comfortable clothing to wear during the treatment. Long sleeve shirts, pants that stretch and socks are ideal.
Shiatsu is a Japanese word that means “finger pressure”. It is based on the principles of traditional Eastern medicine, and is a rejuvenating experience that releases the flow of energy along the body’s meridians. The therapist uses her fingers, thumbs, palms, and forearms to apply pressure to the client’s body. These techniques are used in conjunction with stretches, compressions, joint rotations, and joint manipulation to give a treatment which aims at treating the client on a holistic level – working with the body, mind and spirit. It balances energy and can relieve fatigue and stimulate one’s natural self-healing abilities. Shiatsu is a perfect way to de-stress muscles, work on targeted painful areas, stretch the body, and re-center.
